Elizabeth Ann Jones Taylor (Betty to many) led a remarkable life that began on April 22, 1930 in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the eldest daughter of C.H. and Elizabeth E. Jones. She completed her earthly journey in Olathe, Kansas on December 22,2018 and is survived by three siblings: Sally Bowman (husband Ray), Olathe, Kansas; David Jones (wife Jean), Grove City, Pennsylvania; and Phyllis Michael (husband Rand), Portland, Oregon.
Betty's loving husband and caregiver for 68 years, William Lloyd Taylor, accompanied her on this journey. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Mark Taylor (wife Debra Sequeira), Seattle, Washington; Mindy Blosser (husband Nick Blosser), Johnson City, Tennessee; Jonathan Taylor (wife Deborah Taylor), Shawnee, Kansas; and Joel Taylor, North Plainfield, New Jersey.
To her nine grandchildren she was known as Nana. They are Rachel, Rebekah, Greta, Peter, Graham, Raymond, Josh, Kyle and Eric. She was also great-grandmother to Tristan, Eamon, Rowan, and twins Olivia and Victoria. Betty enjoyed visiting with nieces, nephews, other close relatives and friends throughout her long life.
Betty graduated from Paseo High School in Kansas City, attended Bethany Peniel College in Bethany, Oklahoma where she met Lloyd, and later graduated from Mount Vernon Nazarene College in Ohio.
Charting her own professional path, Betty completed her college education after her own children were in high school and college. She received her B.A. degree in Elementary Education with a 6-month old granddaughter in attendance. She then taught elementary school until retirement in June 1994. Most of that time was spent at Woodsonia School in the Desoto, Kansas district.
Betty was a lifelong member of the Nazarene Church, most recently attending College Church of the Nazarene in Olathe, Kansas. She particularly enjoyed the Harvesters Sunday School Class. She loved knitting prayer shawls as a part of the Prayer Shawl Ministry.
She also quilted avidly, sending her grandchildren "quillows" she made. Betty recently took up drawing again and just completed a colored pencil drawing of a goldfinch. And she grew irises, which have been passed on to her children.
In September 2018, Betty was diagnosed with cancer and fought courageously to the end. The family would like to thank Amada Senior Care, Aberdeen Village, and Crossroads Hospice for their care during her illness.
Visitation will be held Monday, December 31, 2018, 10:00 am at Penwell-Gabel Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Olathe, Kansas.
Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am. on Monday.
