BETTY JO PYLE, 83, of Joplin, MO passed away January 12, 2012 in her home. She was born December 10, 1928 in Joplin, MO to Joseph and Elizabeth Gourly. She spent her early adulthood working in the Joplin area in family owned business. She met and married Wilford Macon on July 9, 1946 and to this union was born five children.
The family moved to the Kansas City, KS area in the mid 1950's. She was employed with Smith & Co. in Paola, KS and owned and operated the E & B Café and the Steak House. Upon divorcing, she moved to Olathe, KS and worked as a supervisor in Housekeeping at Olathe Medical Center. After retiring, she married Bill R. Pyle on November 19, 1993 and returned to Joplin, MO.
She is survived by two daughters; Connie Swinehart of Olathe, KS and Janie Rebstock of Arkansas, six grandchildren; Shanna Peters, Staci Hersh, Brenna Sommerla, Matthew Swinehart, Jonathan Florio, Julia Florio, eight great-grandchildren and her beloved cat, Bobby. She was preceded in death by her mother Elizabeth Strait, her father Joseph Gourly, her daughter Gail Florio, her two sons, Gary Macon and Troy Macon, and her husband's, Wilford Macon and Bill Pyle.
A memorial service will be held at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S Blackbob Rd, Olathe, KS on Friday, January 20th at 2:30pm. Final resting place, Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Olathe, KS.
Betty devoted her life to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Joplin Missouri Disaster Relief Fund at Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, 1055 Broadway, Suite 130, Kansas City, MO 64105.
