Betty L. Mason

February 18, 1933 — June 23, 2022

Betty L. Mason, 89, of Leawood, KS, (formerly of El Dorado, KS) met her heavenly father on June 23, 2022 at Kansas City Hospice House.

Betty was born on February 18, 1933 to Riley and Christine (Pearson) Miller in Ft. Smith, AR.

On December 24, 1952, she married the love of her life, William Gayle Mason, and they made their home in Wichita, KS. In 1955, Betty became a mother to her son Wayne. In 1957, daughter Cristie followed. Daughter Kimberley was then born in 1965 after a move to Independence, KS.

Betty loved being a homemaker and spent her time with her children teaching them to be God loving people. Betty and Bill provided a home filled with love and laughter and opportunities for their children to grow into adults that emulated their life of service for their communities in the name of Jesus.

Betty and Bill later moved to El Dorado, KS where they would live for more than 40 years. Betty and Bill were incredibly active at First Baptist Church focusing so much of their time on mentoring and loving on the youth of the community. She will be remembered for her infectious smile, love for Jesus, and for welcoming hundreds of children into her home. Betty loved accompanying "Wild" Bill to Camp Galilee where she served the youth of El Dorado and taught them about her Lord and Savior. Betty loved fiercely and was adored in turn by those who were touched by this beautiful woman.

In 1982, Betty became "Ma'ma," a term she loved dearly. Betty was the proud Ma'ma to Scott (Sadi) Roberts, Martha (David) Cox, Marc (Megan) Roberts, Joanna (Eric) Hankins, Matthew Mason, Melissa (Kyle) Runge, Emily Kaufman, and Bethany (Anthony) Garnett. Betty also welcomed thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Betty stood as a rock for her family, especially Bill who kept her busy with his many projects, family get togethers, and public service. The impact that one life can have on a family, a community, was not lost on Betty who left a legacy of love, peace, and service wherever she went.

Betty is survived by her loving husband, Bill, and her children Wayne (Brenda) Mason, Cristie (Steve) Roberts and Kimberley (Tim) Kaufman, her eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Jean Armstrong, and her daughter-in-law Melanie Mason.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, June 28 at 11:00am at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Overland Park, KS. A Celebration of Betty's extraordinary life will be held at a later date in El Dorado , KS.

Memorials are suggested to the El Dorado First Baptist Church Camp Galilee Fund .

If you were fortunate to know Betty, her family wants you to know that she loved you. Betty prayed for you, and she was thrilled to know you. We will miss her terribly, but we take solace in the fact that she has heard the words, "Well done good and faithful servant," by her Jesus. Betty/Mom/Ma'ma, we love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life." - John 3:16
