Ever the graceful lady, Betty Louise Anderson Patterson, 95, loving wife of the late Curtis John Patterson, Jr., died of cancer in her home at The Forum of Leawood, Kansas on January 5, 2014.
Betty was born in Independence, Kansas to Nina and John William Anderson. The family moved to Kansas City, Missouri when Betty was two months old. She attended Sunset Hill School and Vassar College.
Betty, her sister Mary Jane and their parents enjoyed many summers at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club. In 1938 she married Curt, the love of her life, who died in 1992. Betty and Curt were members of Mission Hills Country Club and Garden of the Gods Club. Some of their choice travel destinations were Florida, Colorado, La Jolla, Palm Desert and La Quinta, California.
After Curt's death, she traveled to Italy, Ireland, Australia, Germany, Greece and Hong Kong. She enjoyed many Cockefair lectures at UMKC and was a Young Matron, a St. Luke's Hospital volunteer and on the St. Andrew's Altar Guild. One of her favorite pastimes was creating needlepoint pillows and birth announcements that she had framed for her grand and great-grand babies. Betty's children, grand and great-grandchildren have all been blessed by her incredible strength and loving devotion. Her bright and positive outlook on life has had a huge impact on their lives.
Betty is survived by daughter Marcia Patterson O'Brien and Charles, son Curtis John Patterson III and Linda, Deborah Patterson Smith and Scott; grandchildren Wende O'Brien Brannock and Sam, Dena O'Brien Waris, Erin O'Brien Dionisiou and Angelo, Ritchie Anne Patterson, Devon Patterson Sween, Laura Patterson Bettis and Eric, Emily Austin Smith, Dylan Curtis Smith, step-grandson Craig Schultz and Christy; great-grandchildren Jack, Daniel and Ben Brannock, Jacob, Joseph and Gabriella Waris, Darby, Annie and Elyse Sween, Curtis Packson and Lauren Bettis, Nina and Gabriel Dionisiou, and Cara and Cate Schultz.
Betty loved and was tenderly cared for by Beverly, Laverne, Terry, Charlesetta, Desiree, Tiffany, Colleen, Lisa, Michelle, Carol, Jill, Casey, Kathy and Maddie. Her family is so grateful and will always remember their magic.
The family requests no flowers and suggests contributions to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and St. Luke's Hospital Foundation.
A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church at Meyer Boulevard and Wornall Road on Monday, January 13 at 10:30 AM. A Celebration of Life will follow at a later date at The Forum.
