Betty Jane Brubaker

Betty J. Brubaker, 92, of Olathe, KS passed Saturday, September 2, 2017.

Betty was born May 27, 1925 in Highland, IL to Fred and Laura Smith. Betty enjoyed her formative years with her beloved two sisters and a brother in St. Elmo, IL. It was in high school there she met her husband to be - Harold S. Brubaker. They were married in 1945 before Harold served in the Navy during WWII. After the war Harold graduated from Southern Illinois University he started his career with CIT Financial Services. There were many moves as he climbed the corporate ladder, so Betty moved with him and their growing family to and from Carbondale to Mt Vernon to Springfield (all in IL). Then to New Orleans to Kansas City to New York City to Louisville, KY. As a homemaker, she provided loving care in raising her family no matter where they landed. Along the way she had stints of work in a grocery, a bank, in interior design and in real estate.

In 1977 Harold retired and they returned to the Kansas City area where they settled in Olathe, KS. After a successful second career in real estate, Harold preceded her in death in 2010. They were preceded in death by an infant son; Michael Brubaker in 1952.

She is survived by a son Larry (Vicki) Brubaker of Lenexa; a daughter Shari Thomas, grandchildren, Jennifer (Stacy) Smith, Darren (Tiffany) Brubaker, Tyler Thomas, Kayla Thomas, and Hunter Thomas, great grandchildren, Sterling Smith, Savannah Smith, Troy Smith, Tyler Smith and Beau Brubaker.
