BETH ANN BEBB HERMAN was born December 10, 1948 to Aldon M. Bebb and Maxine Christine Carlson Bebb in Superior, Wisconsin. She attended schools in Pittsburg, Kansas where she was active in Girl Scouts and piano lessons. She then attended and graduated from Baker University with a bachelors degree in elementary education. The summer after her freshman year in college, she participated in a Girl Scout International Exchange Program to Paraguay. While attending Baker University, she continued piano lessons and was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority.
She married Stephen E. Herman, of Pittsburg, KS and began her teaching career in Pittsburg. While in Pittsburg, she taught two years while her husband finished college. Beth completed her Masters degree in elementary education at PSU during this time. They followed her husband's employment to the Kansas City area where she taught in the Turner school district for two years. They bought and moved into a 100-year-old house in Olathe. Here, she stayed at home to raise her family. Her children are Matthew S. Herman and Emily R. Herman.
In addition to being a full-time stay–at-home mother, she was a member of the Junior Service League of Olathe, leader of her daughter's Girl Scout Troop, was a piano teacher for 14 years, an active school volunteer, member of the Olathe Historical Society, a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Alumni Chapter, active in two bridge groups, and a substitute teacher in the Olathe School system for 14 years.
In 1978, Beth became a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Olathe. Beth was a VBS leader, took leadership in the Presbyterian Women, was a long-time Sunday School teacher, helped with children's music, was in charge of Sunday attendance, was an ordained Deacon and Elder, assisted in meal planning and cooking for the Wednesday Christian Education program, was chairman of the kitchen design and revitalization project, a Camp CUMCITO volunteer, and participated for 6 years in Bible Study Fellowship.
In recent years, Beth and her husband divorced and Beth taught in the International Language Program for the Olathe School District. Her survivors include her son, Matthew S. Herman and wife, Melanie J. Herman and children, Mason A. and Emery J. Herman of Brookside, MO; her daughter, Emily R. Herman and Miller G. White, and their children Iris M. and Bay H. White of Gustavus, AK; her father, Aldon M. Bebb of Pittsburg, KS; her brother, James R. Bebb and wife, Peggy J. and children Bryan J. and Jessie B. Bebb, both of Whitefish, MT; sister Margaret B. Neil and husband Ed Neil, Jr. and children Cooper S. and Jordan C. Neil, both of Pittsburg, KS. She was preceded in death by her mother, Maxine C. Bebb of Pittsburg, KS.
After a ten-year battle with breast cancer, Beth died peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 30, 2010..
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to The First Presbyterian Church of Olathe, Missions Fund and Children's Ministry.
