Beryl Francis Carlew, 55, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away peacefully at home on December 31, 2008. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, January 2, at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 Blackbob Road, Olathe, Kansas. Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 3, 2009 at The Church of the Ascension, 9510 West 127th St., Overland Park, Kansas. at 2:00 p.m. Beryl was born September 25, 1953 in St. Louis, Missouri. A graduate of Rockhurst High School and Rockhurst College with a degree in Business, Beryl was a devoted husband and father, and made everyone he met feel special. His career led him from labor mediation to human resources, then executive recruiter and on to sales. For the last 5 years he ran his own consulting company focused on helping owners of auto repair shops grow their businesses. Beryl was a friend to all those he encountered and an inspiration to all who loved him. He had a grace and charisma about him that instantly drew others to him. Beryl was incredibly generous and never hesitated to help those around him, always going the extra mile. Anyone who knew Beryl was the better for it. His fortitude, humor, and his ever-present desire to make things easy for those around him were evident throughout his life, right until the very end. His impact has been vast and he will be deeply missed. Beryl was preceded in death by his infant son, Martin Edward, his parents, Beryl M. and Nelka Carlew, and first wife Veronica Fitzgerald. He is survived by wife Vicki Carlew, son Greg and daughter Sarah, all of Kansas City. Additionally, he is survived by his five siblings, Kay Carlew of Louisville, Kentucky, Carol Katzer of Kansas City, Missouri, John Carlew of Kansas City, Missouri, Bob Carlew of Springfield, Missouri and Tom Carlew, of Springfield, Missouri, along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, you consider a donation to the American Cancer Society.
