Bernice Catlin
Bernice Catlin, 93, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2008.
Born Aletha Bernice Carver on November 16, 1914, daughter of Clarence and Maude Carver, she grew up in the Olathe area and married Howard Catlin on November 7, 1936. Together they owned Catlin Machinery Company in Olathe until Howard retired in 1967. They had 3 children and many years of happiness together. In later years they especially enjoyed traveling in their Winnebago motor home and being a part of the Chief Winnies Camping Club.
Bernice was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Olathe for 64 years. She was also a member of the Bonita Hummers unit of FCE, the Charitable Foundation of Olathe Medical Center and she was a member and past president of Kappa Epsilon Club of Federated Women. Volunteer work was an important part of her life and she was a member of a group who sewed "hugs" for children admitted to the hospital. After she moved to Aberdeen Village in 2001, she spent many hours crocheting the tiny stocking caps given to new babies and preemies at the Olathe Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Catlin and her sister Glenna Hunter. Survivors include her son, Donald Catlin and his wife Trish, of Phoenix, AZ, two daughters, Brenda Taylor and her husband Larry, of Overland Park, KS and Betty Clemetson and her husband Rod, of Holton, KS, 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
