Ben Neal

Ben Neal, a beloved educator, coach, and exemplary individual, was born on October 2, 1936, in Sedalia, Missouri. He passed away peacefully on April 13, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones, in Olathe, Kansas. Ben leaves behind a legacy characterized by his unwavering commitment to education, sportsmanship, and community service.

Ben devoted many years of his life to the Center School District, where he served as a Teacher, Coach and Principal. His passion for nurturing young minds and facilitating athletic skill development extended further to the Blue Valley School District, positively impacting many more young adults. His influence resonated throughout the lives of countless students and athletes, who will remember him for his dedication and unwavering support.

A graduate of Missouri Valley College, Ben’s athletic prowess shone brightly during his college years, where he proudly played in the Tangerine Bowl. This accomplishment reflected not only his talent but also his determination and competitive spirit. Ben further advanced his credentials achieving his Masters and Specialist degrees at the University of Missouri, Kansas City studying evenings and weekends while teaching and coaching full time. He was also proud of helping coach Hall of Fame inductee Len Dawson’s college summer football camp, focusing on physical skills and assessing future quarterbacks. As a passionate supporter of sports, he inspired countless students through both his teaching and coaching.

Known for his remarkable and kind personality, Ben was a generous individual whose warmth endeared him to all who were fortunate enough to cross his path. Many will cherish the memories of his great athleticism, as well as the way he positively influenced the lives of those around him. His jovial laughter could be heard across the waters at Sunrise Ridge Condos where Ben served many years as President of the HOA, creating lasting memories for his family and friends from the Lake of the Ozarks.

Ben is survived by his cherished wife, Mary Helen; his son, Kevin; and his grandson, Garrett, who will carry forward his memory and the values he instilled in them. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Benna Renee Neal; his brothers, Charles "Charlie" Neal; and Gordon Neal, who will forever be held in the hearts of their family.

A graveside service to honor Ben's life and contributions will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025, at Olathe Memorial Cemetery, located at 730 North Chestnut Street in Olathe, Kansas. The service will begin at 1:00 PM, with a gathering of loved ones and friends to celebrate his remarkable life.

Ben Neal's legacy of compassion, dedication, and excellence will continue to resonate in the lives of all he touched.
