Helen Beatrice Churchman, Bea, passed peacefully into her heavenly home on January 8, 2021. She was born on September 9th 1926 in Breckenridge Missouri to John and Mary Oswalt. Bea's mother passed away when she was 2 years old and the family moved to Gardner, Kansas where Bea was known around town as "the baby." Bea attended Gardner schools, and after graduation cared for her grandmother until her death. Bea began working in the county clerk's office in the Johnson County courthouse and remained employed there until 1987. She married Bill Churchman Jr in 1947. They were active members of Grace United church for over 50 years. Granny Bea's greatest joy in life was her family, which was enriched by the birth of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bea and Bill enjoyed hosting family dinners for birthdays and holidays and a good time was always had by all. She enjoyed gardening and grew beautiful flowers which she shared in bouquets with friends and family. At Christmastime, Bea and Bill made a great variety of cookies and candies to share with loved ones. After their retirements, Bea and Bill enjoyed yearly trips to Arizona and many day trips with their church friends.
Bea was preceded in death by her parents John and Mary Oswalt, her brother Charles Oswalt, sister Virginia Clark, her husband Bill Churchman, and great-grandson William Thomas Churchman. She is survived by her children, Bill Churchman (Nancy) Olathe, Julie Churchman-Burns (Michael) Kansas City, Kansas, grandchildren Becky Seidler (Brian), Matthew Churchman (Laura), Alex Churchman (Lindsey), Shelby Burns and Alexis Burns. Great grandchildren Ryan, Brooklyn, and Dylan Seidler, Ella Bea, Lyla, and Liam Churchman.
Even though Bea's mother passed when she was only 2, she somehow became the best mother and grandmother anyone could have. Her love for and loyalty to her family were boundless. Mama, we know you will be happy, pain free, and at peace in your heavenly home. We will remember you and your loving ways forever. As you would always say, "well bless your heart."
