BARBARA W. WALKER
Barbara passed away November 11, 2010 in Lenexa, KS, with her family at her side. A Celebration of her life will be held in Brownsville sometime in December with arrangements pending. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Barbara was born March 30, 1931 in Harlingen, TX to Lesley and Ludevine Ward. While attending Brownsville High School, she was a member of the High School Cheerleading Squad. She graduated from Texas Women's University with a Bachelor in Fine Arts Degree.
She was a member of the Board of Directors at the Gladys Porter Zoo, a member of the Junior Service League, a member of the Valley Zoological Society, the Pan American Round Table, and the RV Garden Club.
In her leisure, she was an avid tennis player and enjoyed golfing. She was a Championship Chicken Foot player- and a great cook.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Walker, her brothers Les (Betty) Ward and Albert (Nancy) Ward, and her sons Jason (Michelle) Walker and Jonathan (Jayme) Walker. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Dillon, Jack, Tyler, Max, and Mackenzy, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Adolph Brooks, her brother, Joseph Ward, and sister, Rosie Ward.
