Barbara Ann Rainey

December 9, 1947 — January 9, 2021

Barbara "Yaya" Ann Rainey (Hale) went home to her creator at 1:45am, Saturday, January 9, 2021. Barbara peacefully ascended into the arms of Jesus surrounded by "Her Girls," after a long-fought battle with an internal infection. Barbara was born Tuesday, December 9, 1947, to Lawrence (D. 1970) and Wilma Hale (D. 1985). Barbara was the oldest of four children; Chris Hale, married to Diane, of Laguna Vista, TX; Lawrence Hale who preceded Barbara in death in 2019; and Steve Hale of Overland Park, KS.

Barbara grew up living in and around Olathe, KS, she graduated from Olathe High School in 1965. She attended Kansas State University for approximately two years prior to her return to Olathe, KS. Barbara met and married Stephen "Steve" Lawrence Rainey while in Olathe. They were married June 17th, 1967 and shared a beautiful life for fifty-three years. Barbara was known for her chocolate chip cookies friends and family alike knew they were second to none. Barbara perfected the recipe over the years and her cookie jar was often the first stop when anyone came to visit. The time spent at Barbara's home was often sweet and everyone was greeted with her kind and graceful way. Barbara left a legacy of kindness as well as a gentle spirit, she taught many how to remain gentle and rely her faith in Jesus during the trials of life.

Barbara was a small in stature woman, but a titan of faith. Barbara was saved in the summer of 1971 and made it her life's work to be a dutiful servant of Jesus Christ. Barbara would share her faith with anyone who would listen and would scribble scripture in every crevice and cranny of whatever Biblical text she was studying. Barbara's biggest gift was prayer, she would practically grow in size before our eyes when she spoke to God. She was often described by many as a prayer warrior, Barbara consistently lived out that description both formally through Westside Family Church's prayer group, as well as informally. Barbara passed her faith onto her children and founded their upbringing on the solid footing of Christ's word. Barbara maintained up to her death, Jesus is the truth, the way through the darkness of this world, and she will be laid to rest in that conviction.

Barbara's memorial service will be held at Westside Family Church (8500 Woodsonia Drive, Lenexa, KS), on Friday, January 15th, 2021, at 12:00pm. The family will receive guests for a reception following the service. Barbara will be laid to rest at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens following the reception.
