On August 24, 1938 Barbara Ruth Henley was born in Lawrence, Kansas to Rev. Earnest and Ruth Henley. She was preceded to heaven by her parents and husband, Carroll Raines. She is survived by her son Rick Raines of Lee's Summit, MO, daughter in-law Patti Raines, grandchildren Erica and Patrick Raines.
Barbara moved to Caldwell, Kansas as a small girl and spent her younger years there. In 1954, her family moved to Olathe, Kansas where her father was the Pastor of the First Assembly of God. She was a graduate of the John P. St. John High School in 1956. It was then when she met the love of her life and "the only man I ever kissed", Carroll Raines. They were married on June 22, 1956 in Lawrence, Kansas (once a Jayhawk, always a Jayhawk!).
She was a beloved mother and grandmother who devoted her life to her family. She was a worker bee with many hobbies and special interests including sewing, flower arranging, crocheting, shopping, bargain hunting at garage sales, and volunteering at the Salvation Army and Olathe Hospital. For over 50 years she was known as the church organist and also loved to sing. Barbara also loved traveling to all 50 states, around Europe, as well as the Bahamas and Panama in her later years.
She was once asked if she could send a message to her grandchildren 20 years from now it would say, "To love God, love yourself, love others and do to others as you would have them do to you."
For the past two years she struggled with dementia, but every now and then you could see the glimmer in her eye, knowing she wanted to go home to see her Savior Jesus Christ.
