Barbara Ann (Kurtz) Newbanks, 92, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, August 14, 2023. She will forever be loved and remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to everyone.
Barbara was born on August 24, 1930 in Lawrence, Kansas to Elmer and Amanda (Weatherford) Kurtz. She attended and graduated from Gardner High School in 1948.
Barbara married the love of her life, Donald Newbanks on November 5, 1948. Her family was extremely important to her. Always remembering every family member on their birthday with a card. She made quilts, cookies, cinnamon rolls, canned red beets, crocheted kitchen towels, and always kept in touch with every family member.
Barbara worked as a Secretary and the Payroll Clerk for the Olathe District Schools from 1965 to 1990.
Barbara was a strong committed Christian. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Olathe for over 60 years. She taught Sunday School, was an ABW member, quilted with the ladies, and held many positions in the church.
Preceded Barbara in death were her parents, Elmer and Amanda Kurtz. A son, Kenneth Newbanks, and five brothers, Fred, Don, Ira, Clifford, and Martin.
Survivors include her loving husband of 74 years, Donald of the home, two sons Gerald (Sheila) Newbanks of Gardner, Kansas, Larry Newbanks, three daughters, Patricia (Jon) Robison, Charlene Newbanks, and Brenda (Terry) Vaughn all of Olathe, Kansas. Thirteen grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren. She will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Barbara's funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at the First Baptist Church, 2024 E. 151st Street, Olathe, Kansas, at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be held one hour (10:00 A.M) before the service at the church.
