Barbara McCubbin, 49, of Olathe, KS passed away at home with her husband, family and friends by her side on Wednesday, September 13, 2006, after her courageous battle with colon cancer. She was born March 20, 1957 in West Plains, MO.
She graduated from Liberty High School in 1975, obtained her Bachelors of Science degree from the School of Architecture at KU in May 1991 and later received her Masters from KU as well. Barbara worked for Black & Veatch for 10 years. Later she worked for the KU Medical Center in their design Construction Maintenance Dept., until she retired a couple years ago due to her illness. In addition to her architectural career, she loved being a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant.
Barb was a member of the American Institute of Architects. She was also a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Barb enjoyed traveling, which took her many places around the United States and overseas. Her talents of quilting, painting, photography, and scrapbooking, will long be cherished.
She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur T. Miller Jr. and her nephew, Hayden Hargrave. She is survived by her husband, Robert McCubbin of 23 years and her beloved daughter, Whitney McCubbin of the home, mother, Sharlot Renfro, step-mother, Barbara Miller, brother, Thomas Miller, sisters; Penny Feagans and Janet Hargrave, step-brother, Mike Bowers and step-sister, Michelle Sidebottom. Several loved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, god-children and MANY, MANY life-long cherished friends.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, September 15, at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S. Blackbob Road, Olathe, Kansas. A Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 16, 2006 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church 16000 W. 143rd Street, Olathe, Kansas.
