Barbara Wiley Adams, 72, of Olathe, passed away on December 6, 2018. She was born on July 22, 1946 to Robert and Marjorie (Wiley) Taggart in Patterson, NJ. She spent her early childhood in Pompton Lakes, NJ and the latter part of her adolescence in Aurora, IL (where she would always call "home"). She graduated from Aurora West High School in 1964.
Barbara earned a scholarship from the Schlepp Foundation upon high school graduation, and she elected to attend the University of Kansas. There she met the love of her life, Paul Adams. They married at the University of Kansas' infamous Danforth Chapel on December 28, 1968. After earning her Masters Degree, Barbara started her career as a student teacher at the Kansas School for the Deaf in Olathe, KS and served as the school's art teacher for 37 years until her retirement in 2008.
Barbara was known by all as a selfless, caring and giving soul. She always smiled and demonstrated an uncanny ability to make all around her happy. Her family was everything to her. As a teacher, Barbara's influence was unparalleled and her school community was her second family. She was truly an amazing wife, mom and teacher.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Paul, her sons Todd (Lisa) of Grayslake, IL, Mark (Jennifer) of Overland Park, KS and John of Los Angeles, CA, her adoring grandchildren (Marin, Gregory, Walker and Zachary), her brother, Bob Taggart of Palo Alto, CA and her sister, Sue Ans (Karl), of Cheyenne, WY.
She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Marjorie Taggart.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Olathe, KS.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road, S.W., Lilburn, GA 30047.
