ARTHUR JOSEPH VAN DAELE OBITUARY

Arthur Joseph Van Daele, age 93, of Olathe, KS. passed away on October 25, 2013.

Art was born on July 26, 1920 at home in the Morse area of Olathe to Belgian immigrants, Kamiel (from Schuyffers Kapelle) & Philomena "Minnie" Fockaert Van Daele (from Putem). After graduating from Eureka grade school, he was valedictorian at graduation from Stanley High School.

On Oct. 19, 1946 Art married Dorothy Elizabeth Mallicoat. A lifetime farmer, he farmed his parents' farm in Morse & the former Harold Griffin farm in Gardner before he & Dorothy purchased a 160-acre farm at 191st St. & Pflumm, Spring Hill.

Art served on the school boards for the West Aubry one-room school, Hilltop Elementary, & Spring Hill Unified School District. A member of the Johnson Co. Farm Bureau for over 60 years (3 years as President), he was also a longtime member of Rural Family Life. He served multiple years on the following boards: FHA Advisory, Johnson
Co. Fair, Soil Conservation, Water District, Johnson Co. Extension Council, & Farmers' Union Elevator. He also served as a 4-H project leader & served over 21 years on the Johnson Co. & township ASC committee. Awards included: Outstanding Young Farmer, Balanced Farmer, Hog Producer, & Soy Bean Yield. Art & Dorothy were active members of the Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Wea, KS.

In 2003 Art & Dorothy sold their farm & moved to Olathe.

Art was preceded in death by: wife, Dorothy Van Daele (2010); brothers, August "Gus" & Morris Van Daele; sisters, Rachel "Rae" Eberly & Julia Milligan; & two siblings, Mary & Albert, who died in infancy and a great granddaughter, Dylynn Renee Watterson. Survivors include: sister, Margaret Davisson of Chicago; children, Stephen Wayne (Cathy) Van Daele of Olathe, Eugene "Gene" Van Daele (Mary) of Spring Hill, Linda Diane Jean (Fred) of Olathe, & Janice Marie Arcuria (Eitho Castedio) of Jonesboro, GA.; grandchildren, Scott Jean (Kendelyn) of Whitsett, N.C., Heather Watterson (Dave) of Olathe, Nicole & Jacob "Jake" Van Daele of Spring Hill, Anthony "Tony" Arcuria (Connie Moretti) of Wailuku, HI., Philip Arcuria (Mary Chaaban) of Phoenix, AZ., Casey Hill (Heather) of Urich, MO., & Cherrylita Castedio of Jonesboro, GA.; Kadynce & Emmri Hill of Urich, MO., Victoria Steinkuehler of Phoenix, AZ.; and many nieces & nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to The Ronald McDonald House.
