Ardyce Ann Plumlee, 92 passed away February 12, 2025 at Heritage of Overland Park which was her residence since October 2024. She especially enjoyed her years at Cedar Lake Village from 2019 – 2024. She was born on December 16, 1932 to William Wallace and Lauretta (Weeks) Strong in Olathe, KS. She was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2011, followed by 2 recent strokes, after which she experienced a rapid decline.
During her late in life career she obtained both an RN and MN and taught Psychiatric Nursing at the University of Kansas for many years, prior to her retirement in 1992. She was married August 3, 1951 to Charles W. Plumlee Jr. until January 5, 2016 when he passed from liver cancer. They were married 64 years. They made their long-term home in Lenexa, KS. She was a member of The Community of Christ Church throughout her life and maintained strong Christian beliefs. She enjoyed playing piano, serving as a minister (most recently Elder) and taught Sunday School.
Ardyce was passionate about many things, especially music, from a young age. In her later years she could be heard singing along with whatever music was playing. Chances are you got sung to on your birthday! She learned to play violin in later life. She was passionate about being involved in many things including PTA, Campfire Girls, Boy Scouts, Light of Life, and served as a leader in many of these. She was an avid reader, sewed until her eyesight failed her, but she remained an avid KU basketball fan. She treasured the travels she enjoyed with her husband Charles which included Alaska & Canada, trips with kids and grandkids, and many years of music shows in Branson, Missouri.
Ardyce is survived by her 3 loving children; Gayle (Kevin)Yeamans, Richard (Renoo) Plumlee and Carol Herbst. 7 grandchildren; Jeremy (Rachel) Yeamans, Zach Yeamans, Erika Tse, Brett Yeamans, Karley (Tim) Monell, Patrick Plumlee and Ryan Plumlee. 6 great grandchildren; Kiara Tse, Kamden Tse, Lucy Yeamans, Luke Yeamans, Kaienna Tse and Bentley Monell. Brothers; Dan (Evelyn) Strong and Bill Strong. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles W. Plumlee Jr., parents, William W. Strong and Lauretta.
Ardyce will be greatly missed but we know she is in bliss reunited with husband Charles as well as the rest of her family. We are comforted by the fact she has been released from suffering she endured as she lost faculties that prevented her from engaging in those things she loved.
Thank you for your presence in her life celebration. Memorials are suggested to The Parkinson’s Foundation or the University of Kansas School of Nursing.
