Ann Boswell Teate

August 23, 1931 — March 6, 2025

Ann Boswell Teate, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Thursday, March 6 at the age of 93 in Olathe, Kansas, where she and her husband, John W. Teate have lived for 47 years.

Born on August 23, 1931 in Newnan, Georgia, to Belvin Walker Boswell and Loma Taylor Boswell McGhee, Ann lived a full life with faith in her Savior, loving and enjoying her family, and quilting. Ann was a registered nurse in Atlanta, Georgia and Overland Park, Kansas, in the happiest department of the hospital; the Mother-Baby unit. She retired in 1995 to focus more time on quilting and traveling with her husband, John.

Ann and John were married for over 73 years and continued to hold hands and say ‘I love you’ every day. Their love and example have inspired their children and grandchildren. Ann’s love for her family created the foundation for a loving family unit where they all shared a close bond, and hearing the sound of laughter from children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was her favorite – and there was always an abundance of laughter whenever the family gathered with many stories told and re-told. Ann was a wonderful cook, and each grandchild has a favorite food or dessert that ‘Grandma’ made.

More than anything else, Ann’s strong faith in and love for Jesus gave her strength to face each day.

Ann is survived by her husband of 73 years, John W. Teate, her 3 children, Darice (Kent) Keating, Swisher, Iowa, John (Andrea) Teate, Jr., Salem, SC, and Carole (Mike) Arnold, Spring Hill, Kansas. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Chris (Amanda) Henderson, Spokane, WA, Meredith Henderson, Des Moines, IA, Angela (Lorelie) Lawrence, Fairbanks, AK, Nicholas Lawrence, Kansas City, MO, Blake Keating, Chicago, IL, Michael Shick, currently stationed in Guam, and bonus grandson, Justin Shick. Ann is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren, and one ‘on the way’, Tyler Henderson, Sagan Henderson, Emi Henderson and baby boy Henderson due in June, and bonus great grandson, Walter Kennon-Shick. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Ann’s visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 12:30 – 2:00 with funeral services to follow at 2:00. The services will be held at Penwell-Gabel funeral home, 14275 S. Black Bob Rd., Olathe, KS.
