Ann E. Hanlon, 75, of Olathe, KS passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2024. Visitation will be at 10:00AM followed by a memorial at 11:00AM Monday, March 11 at Penwell – Gabel, Olathe Chapel.
Ann was born January 9th, 1949, in Joplin, MO to John and Emily Saxton. Ann grew up in Iola, KS where she attended elementary, junior high, and high school. After graduating from high school Ann went on to KU where she had a scholarship and obtained a bachelor's degree in English history. Upon graduation Ann found a job working as a law librarian, first in Kansas City and later in Olathe. In the late 70s she began going back to church and gave her life to the Lord. While she was at church, she met a "scraggly" looking man that would later become her husband, Mike. 10 months after their marriage Mike and Ann welcomed their first child, Kathryn. Ann and Mike at this point decided she would stay home and raise Kathy, and Mike would be the breadwinner working at Southwestern Bell. 5 years later Mike and Ann welcomed their second child, Timothy. Ann taught her children about art, to appreciate it, and even create it. She even had a craft business for a few years making tiny sculptures, other nick knacks, cloth dolls, and porcelain dolls. Her amazing personality shown wherever she went. Her personality and love of music shown when she served on her church's worship team as the piano player and in the choir. Ann went back to work once Tim was in junior high at Lenexa Christian Center as the secretary to their children's pastor before moving onto Sprint PCS where she worked as an administrative assistance under multiple directors. She was well loved and respected by her peers. At one point she was encouraged by vice president to seek higher education and get an MBA. Ann worked tirelessly as a mother, student, and administrative assistant and completed her MBA at Baker. Shortly after obtaining her MBA, unfortunately, Sprint began to doing mass layoffs that Ann was a casualty of. Not allowing this to hold her down she began working on her art and worked as a secretary at her church. She had to leave that job to stay home and care for family after a year of working. Despite many challenges Ann pressed on even after losing Mike in 2018, she kept going. Ann continued working on her art putting it into many formats including greeting cards and paintings of many styles and types. At many points Ann volunteered with her church, doing hospital visits, office work, and even teaching watercolor painting where she made many friends. Ann loved her family, art, and God. She was a dreamer who saw the beauty in everything.
Ann is preceded in death by her husband Michael, father John and mother Emily Saxton both of Iola, KS, and cousin Janet Meoli of Orlando, FL.
Ann is survived by her children Kathryn and Timothy both of Olathe, KS, her sister-in-law Pamela Soper of Eudora, KS, her brother-in-law James Epting of Scotia, NY, niece Mindy Hewitt of Greenwich, NY, and nephew B.J.
