Andree C. Ables

September 30, 1936 — March 25, 2019

Andree C. (Bidou) Ables was born in Paris, France on September 30, 1936 and passed away peacefully on March 25, 2019 in Overland Park, Kansas. Growing up in Paris during World War II resulted in a difficult childhood, but also made Andree a strong, proud, and independent woman. She married and moved to the United States in 1955. She and her now former husband ultimately settled in Overland Park, Kansas. She was always fiercely devoted to and supportive of her children, Pat and Annette.

Andree was fluent in French, English, and Spanish. She loved classical music, show tunes, and dancing. Andree had a beautiful singing voice, and even performed in community theatre. She was very proud of her French heritage and traveled to her beloved homeland regularly while her mom was still living. She had a great love and appreciation for nature (especially dogs and roses), and enjoyed gardening and taking long walks.

Andree retired from Ernie Miller Nature Center in 2009. Her dreams of a well-earned and joyous retirement were cut short by Alzheimer's. Her last five years were spent in assisted living and then memory care, but because of the amazing care and compassion of the staff at Sunrise of Overland Park, these years were peaceful, safe, and full of love. Ascend Hospice added to the care and love Andree received in her final year.

She was a beautiful, unique, and spirited lady who never lost her French flare. She was adored by many, especially her family. She was preceded in death by her mom, Suzanne Bessicot, her brother, Gabriel Bidou, her great-grandson, Reece Ables, and her beloved dog, Paris. She leaves behind her children, D. Patrick Ables and F. Annette Mangrum, and her 'children-in-law', Sue Ables and Jasen Mangrum, her granddaughters, Mikka Ables and Sarah Frick, and Sarah's husband, David Frick, her great-grandchildren, Jaden, Nadia, Austin, Maddie, and Carter, and her former husband, Luther Ables.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either Ascend Hospice, 4550 W. 109th St, Suite 210 Overland Park, KS 66211, the Alzheimer's Association, 3846 W 75th St, Prairie Village, KS 66208, or to the Great Plains SPCA, 5424 Antioch Dr, Merriam, KS 66202.
