Alvin Wallace
November 15, 1927 — January 16, 2019
Alvin Edward Wallace of Olathe, Kansas peacefully went to be with the Lord after a short illness on January 16, 2019 at 91 years of age, with his wife by his side. He was born on November 15, 1927 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the oldest child of Dorothy (née Bath) and Alvin Wallace. He graduated from Cincinnati's High School of Graphic Arts and Printing in 1945 and immediately enlisted in the Marine Corps to serve in WWII. Completing Basic Training just as the war came to an end, he was stationed in Washington D.C. as a Military Policeman (MP).
Al worked 37 years at General Electric's Aircraft Engine plant in Cincinnati, during which time he played a key role in GE's transition into the computer age as Facilities Manager. Retiring in 1990, he pursued various hobbies with great vigor, and was very active in his church and community. He was a participant and regular medalist in the Senior Olympics (basketball). He and his wife traveled extensively, and he enjoyed playing games, doing puzzles and watching football, baseball, and golf with family and friends. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
He is survived by Doris, his wife of nearly 51 years, his children Mary Lou (Norman) Zins, Joe Wallace, Melissa Wallace, Molly Keables, Stan (Lori) Wallace, Angela (James) Overman, and eleven grandchildren ranging from 17 to 42 years of age, and many other relatives and friends.
The Memorial Service will be held at Christ Community Church of the Nazarene (21385 College Blvd., Olathe, KS 66061) on Thursday, January 24th at 4:00pm. Flowers may be sent to the church, or gifts may be sent to the church or Global Scholars (www.global-scholars.org).
