Alberta Henkel, also known as "Bert" was born in Gaylord, Kansas, on November 14, 1921, to John and Anna Henning and passed peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on May 3, 2015, in Olathe, Kansas, at the age of 93. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Christ Lutheran Church in Gaylord, Kansas.
Her husband, Kenneth L. Henkel, preceded Alberta in death (April 17, 2000). Her only sister, Ora, preceded Alberta in death.
Alberta was an inspiring person to her family and many friends. She lived in Tulsa, OK, for 35 years before coming to Cedar Lake Village in Olathe, Kansas, to be near her son, Douglas Henkel.
She has two sons, Douglas Henkel of Olathe and wife Marie and son Craig of Acworth, Georgia. She is very proud of her family and grandchildren, Audrey and Anna Henkel.
Alberta was very active throughout her life, whether raising her sons, being a Den Mother in Cub Scouts, participating in church activities or working and succeeding in many of her activities of her employment. Since her husband was employed with an oil company, they moved numerous times.
While Doug and Craig attended Oklahoma University, Alberta decided to go to work. After each move and after getting her house in order, she did just that. She was secretary to the dean at the College of Law at Tulsa (TU), secretary to the Dean of Development in Fort Worth, Texas. And when back in Tulsa, she was Administrative Assistant with Bentley and Crews, doing real estate closings, oil and gas distributions along with other secretarial duties. She retired in 1987 but did volunteer work at the hospital and church. She came to Cedar Lake Village in Olathe, KS in 2007.
She enjoyed the many activities at Cedar Lake Village, particularly playing bridge with her friends.
She was a member of Advent Lutheran Church in Olathe.
Alberta always said she was grateful to have lived a full and rewarding life so no one should mourn her death. Nonetheless, she will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
As a loving wife, dedicated mother and generous friend, she deserves her rest in heaven.
