Albert H. Eatwell

Albert Howard Eatwell, 91, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2025. He was born on August 2, 1933 in Blackhawk, Colorado to Albert and Laura (Brodie) Salazar. 

Al was an only child and grew up in Denver, Colorado raised by his grandmother, great grandmother and lived with his aunt and uncle, Gene and Ode Smith and his cousins, Elaine Smith Pace and Gene (Gus) Smith. 

He graduated from West High school (1950), Denver, Colorado, and served in the Navy for 2 years as an air traffic control controller. While stationed in Olathe, Kansas he met Phyllis Pickert. While finishing his navy career in Maryland, he converted to Catholicism and return to Kansas City to reunite with his future bride. Al and Phyllis were married in 1955, settled in Overland Park, Kansas, and raised 3 daughters. They were active members of Holy Trinity Catholic Church for many years, serving on a variety of boards within the parish and school. 

Al’s career as an engineer spanned 40 years with Troug Nichols and Natkin heating and air conditioning. Being civic minded, Al’s leadership as president of Ashrae, Kiwanis, and the mid-America Senior Golf association was important to him. He was a devoted husband, father, family man and friend to so many. He enjoyed various social activities with family and friends, playing golf, snow skiing, water skiing and playing bridge. 

He is survived by his three daughters, Denise (Larry) Campbell, Diane (Ken) Williams, and Debbie Harris, his grandchildren, Tyler Campbell, Chelsey Campbell Dinkel, Austin Harris, Nicole Harris, and Katelyn Williams, and great-grandchildren, Calvin Campbell, Aria Campbell, and Drew Dinkel, sister-in-law Marilyn Porter (Jim) and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Phyllis Pickert Eatwell in 1984, and wife of 15 years Virginia Eatwell in 2015, parents Albert F. Salazar and Laura Brodie Graham, and cousin Elaine Smith Pace.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:15 AM on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Parish in Leawood, KS. Burial will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Lenexa, KS. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are welcome in memory of Al to a charity of your choice.
