Alan Redinger

January 25, 1947 — October 16, 2012

Alan Redinger, formerly of Olathe, Kan., passed peacefully into heaven October 16, 2012, after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Alan was born Jan. 25, 1947, to Joan and Edward Redinger in Kansas City, Kan. He lived the first 48 years of his life in Olathe. He graduated from Olathe High School in 1965. Alan served his country for six years in the Air Force Reserves. He eventually purchased the family owned commercial printing business, Burns Publishing Co., Inc. As a business man, Alan was active in the Olathe area, belonging to the local Chamber of Commerce and many other professional and civic organizations. For the past 20 years, Alan has made Ponce Inlet, Fla., his home and the business has been run jointly between Alan and Mary Ann in Florida and his good friends and partners, John and Diane Burnell in Olathe. In 1992, Alan made Ponce Inlet his home. He loved the water and felt very blessed to be able to live in that beautiful area. His favorite hobby was boating and he was happiest when he was out on his boat, the Lucky Duck, with friends and family. Alan loved all animals and was very proud to be instrumental in the creation of Ponce Inlet Animal Welfare which worked to enact a local Trap/Neuter/Return ordinance. He was also supportive of many local and national animal welfare organizations. He was especially pleased to be involved with the Halifax Humane Society and the creation of the Redinger Low Cost Spay/Neuter Pet Clinic. He was proud to be named Ponce Inlet Citizen of the Year in 2010. Alan received the 2010 Silver Star Distinguished Service Citizen of the Year Award from the Volusia League of Cities. He was named Man of the Year in 2011 by Concerned Citizens for Animal Welfare. He received a Certificate of Special Recognition in 2010 from the US Congress. He was also a member of the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse Preservation Society Advisory Committee. Because of his love of Ponce Inlet, Alan had a strong interest in the Town and was a fixture at most Town Council meetings. Alan is survived by his wife, Mary Ann and by his father, Ed, a host of friends and extended family members and his beloved cats. Donations in Alan's memory may be given to the Halifax Humane Society, 2364 West LPGA Blvd., Daytona Beach, FL 32124 or to any animal welfare organization of the donor's choosing. The family would like to thank the staff of Florida Memorial Hospital, Ormond Beach, Fla., and Halifax Hospice of Volusia/Flagler County in Port Orange, Fla., for their excellent care and compassion. Although Alan is gone from us here on earth, he will never be forgotten by those of us left behind.
