Alan James Fitzmorris

March 21, 1946 — December 4, 2024

Olathe

Alan James Fitzmorris, 78, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away peacefully at home with his family on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. Born on March 21, 1946, in Buffalo, New York, he was the son of Bob and Marion (Homer) Fitzmorris. Alan lived a life rich with love, passion, and purpose.

Alan met the love of his life, Jan, during the baseball season of 1970 on the Plaza in Kansas City. Their love story culminated in marriage during the All-Star break on July 13, 1971, at Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church in Overland Park, Kansas. Together, they shared 53 years of beautiful memories.

Alan’s remarkable career in Major League Baseball spanned several teams, including the Kansas City Royals, Cleveland Indians, and Anaheim Angels. He concluded his time in the sport as a players’ coach with the Hawaii Islanders in 1979. Alan was a proud member of the Major League Baseball Alumni Association, the Kansas City Royals Alumni Association, and a committed supporter of many Kansas City Royals charities.

Beyond his baseball legacy, Alan had a passion for music, often writing songs and playing his guitar. He enjoyed walking his beloved dogs, Casey and Otis, playing golf, watching Western movies, and spending time at Kauffman Stadium. Alan's greatest joy, however, came from his family, especially his grandchildren. Whether traveling to their sporting events, sharing his love of baseball, or hosting tent nights with movies, Alan created cherished memories that will last for generations.

Alan and Jan loved dining out at their favorite restaurants—Jose Peppers, LongHorn Steakhouse, The Peanut, First Watch, and Austin’s—taking trips to Atchison, and simply enjoying each other's company while sitting on the patio. Their bond was a testament to enduring love and partnership.

Alan is survived by his devoted wife, Jan Fitzmorris; their son, Matthew Fitzmorris (Connor and Kelly); their daughter, Rebecca McKeon (Daniel and Hannah); his children from a previous marriage, Natalie Neola (Heather and Africa), Mickey Fitzmorris (Rosalie and Zoey), and Elizabeth Miggins (Alexis, Elijah, Dillon, and Isaiah); and his great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Elijah, Kyro, and Myel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Marion Fitzmorris; his sister, Diane O’Neill; and his granddaughter, Madison Neola.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, December 16, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ascend Church, 15865 S. Ridgeview Road, Olathe, KS 66062.
