Alan Arthur Abington

Alan Arthur Abington, 65, of Prairie Village, KS passed Sunday May 27, 2018. Visitation will be 9:30-10:30AM Thursday June 7 at Penwell-Gabel, Olathe Chapel. Memorial Service will be 10:30AM followed by inurnment at Leavenworth National Cemetery.

Alan was born November 21, 1952 in Baltimore, MD to Charles Arthur Abington and Abby Cantu. He graduated from Saint Xaviers High School in Junction City, KS in 1971. Immediately following graduation he attended Salina Vocational School where he studied Auto Body Repair. Upon completion of his vocational training, he worked in a body shop in Junction City. In 1975, he joined the US Army. He was a member of Special Forces 82d Airborn where he attained the rank of Specialist 5. Upon his discharge, he returned to Junction City for a short time and later moved to Biloxi, Mississippi and worked in the ship yards as a welder. His son was born in 1981 in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. In 1982, he returned to Junction City and worked for many years at Coors Distributing. When he left Coors, he opened/owned Alan's Body Shop. In 1993, he closed the body shop and moved to Olathe, KS. He attended training and obtained his CDL license. He was a truck driver for Fernelle's Express.

He never saw a stranger and was known for his love of family, kindness, great smile, and quick whit. He worked hard his entire life to provide for those he loved. He had a generous heart. He recently puchased his "perfect" home in Prairie Village, KS right across from the tennis courts. He loved his ten-nis and played as much as possible. He was extremely proud of his son and grandchildren. He enjoyed watching his older granddaughter play volleyball and participate in her dance team at Indian Trail Middle School. He also enjoyed taking his younger granddaughter to the park and to Cosmic Jump.

Alan is survived by his son Aaron Arthur Abington, grandchildren Marley and Adrianna Abington, his sister and her husband Arden-Kaye and Clair Henderson; his niece, her husband and children: Audra, Thad, Trey and Lexi McClelland; his nephew and his son, daughter-in-law and children: Brett Henderson, Austin, Sha, Jericka, Zuryena and Tinnlee Henderson. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
