Adelle Jones Sowards

December 21, 1937 — January 16, 2021

Adelle grew up in Walnut Grove, Mississippi, born December 21, 1937. She was the daughter of Marvin and Reesie Jones. She was one of 9 children. Adelle made a profession of faith at the young age of 9. She graduated from Walnut Grove Highschool and attended William Carey College, also in Mississippi. Adelle met her husband, Richard A. Sowards, at Keesler Airforce Base in Biloxi, Mississippi, where she was employed with Civil Service. Adelle followed her husband into the ministry and served beside him as the Pastor's wife at churches in Mississippi, Indiana and Kansas. Together, they had 3 children, and as a family were all very talented musicians, singing and performing gospel music as a group, for many years.

Adelle is survived by 3 children, Kimberlee Gordon, of Richmond, KS; Karen Rogers (Joe), of Gardner, KS, Gregg Sowards (Tammy), of Murfreesboro, TN, 9 grandchildren, Ryan Gordon (Sara), Sean Gordon, Eric Gordon (Rachel), Brianna Eubank( Craig); J. Caleb Rogers (Brittany), Kendra Garetson (Jayden); Kelsey Grimm (Caleb), Tyler Sowards (Nicole), Chad Sowards (Leanna), 10 great grandchildren, one sister, Carolyn Thomas and one brother, Marvin Daniel Jones, Jr., both of Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, her parents, and 7 siblings.

Adelle was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Gardner, Kansas. She was loved by her Lord and Savior, family and friends, far and wide.
