Adam Paul Scruton

October 1, 1999 — August 22, 2021

Adam Paul Scruton, 21, of Olathe, passed away on August 22, 2021 at his home.

He was born on October 1, 1999 to Jay and Heather (Comstock) Scruton at Olathe, KS.

Adam graduated from Olathe Northwest High School in 2018.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where he was actively involved with the youth program. He especially enjoyed participating in the youth mission trips. He was passionate about service, taking care of others and sharing his experiences with the congregation. He accepted Christ as his personal savior as young boy and followed in believer's baptism as a teenager. His love for Jesus was mirrored in the depth of love, grace, and forgiveness that he offered freely to all who knew him.

Adam was a true and loyal friend who would drop everything to be with someone in need. He loved with his whole heart, and he loved people where they were. There was no judgement, no expectation, no condition on his love. He didn't see faults or scars, only the good that exists in every person. The more damaged or fragile a person was, the more he loved them.

He could make friends with anyone, anywhere. He confidently struck up conversations with strangers, charming them with his respectful, genuine interest.

He was extravagantly generous, and would never have been a rich man, as he found so much joy in giving what he had to others.

He will always be remembered by his teachers, God bless them. He didn't make their jobs easy, yet his parents were told time after time that he was one of their favorite students and that they often could only shake their their heads and laugh at his antics.

Adam loved children. He would skip Sunday school and church, only to be found sitting in the church preschool class, surrounded by laughing, clinging toddlers who were drawn to him as bees to honey. He was never uncomfortable around kids who were different or health-challenged, and treated them with the special grace that was his gift.

Adam loved nature. He found comfort in the outdoors, and was endlessly fascinated with plants, animals, and insects. He loved the unloveable in this as well: alligators, toads, lizards, cacti. He was drawn to find the beauty beyond the superficial in every part of his life.

Adam had a very special relationship with his aunt Kelly, who he renamed Kaykee in his infancy, and who remains Kaykee to almost everyone who knows her well. He could speak to her about the difficulties he encountered, and trusted that she would provide her wisdom and support any time he needed her. Not an aunt, not a parent, she was just Kaykee, and she was his emotional touchpoint his whole life.

Adam had an extraordinary friendship with his grandfather and kindred spirit, "Popo" Comstock. Their bond is unbreakable.

He fought with his baby sister, yet adored her. He pushed her and teased her and knew all her buttons, but would leap to defend her or protect her. He was more outgoing and daring than Ali, and would often pull her into his adventures . He never excluded her or left her behind. He admired her greatly, and shared parts of himself with only her. She knows him better than anyone else on earth, and he will watch out for her even now, because he loves her fiercely, as she loves him.

He challenged his parents every day, even as he made them laugh as no one else ever could. He taught them patience and compassion and forgiveness. He gave them a constant supply of "Adam Stories" to share with family and friends that never failed to delight. Although he was never easy, perhaps the best people never are, for his presence brought a joy to their lives they will cherish always. The memories of this passionate, kind, wonderful child of their will sustain them until he welcomes them to heaven with open arms and his irrepressible smile.

Adam is survived by his loving parents, Heather and Jay Scruton, his beloved sister, Ali, his Kaykee (and Uncle Rich), Gardner, KS; grandparents Paul and Brenda Scruton of Avon Park, FL, his grandparents David and Jane Comstock of Siloam Springs, AR, and his many aunts, uncles, and cousins: Aunt Kim Danders, Olathe, KS; Aunt Kelly (Todd) Hawkins, Shawnee Mission, KS; Uncle Terry (Genie) Scruton, Lenexa, KS; Cousins - Katelyn and Theron Dake, Tulsa, OK; Christian Kilby, Gardner, KS; Kale Danders Charleston, SC; Bryce (Dominique) and Bryan Danders, Olathe, KS; Quinn and Sage Hawkins, Shawnee Mission, KS; Eva and Noah Scruton, Lenexa, KS and special family friend, Ivan Montiel.
