David Dean Hamblin

September 17, 1949 — January 12, 2023

David Dean Hamblin, 73, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2023. He was born on September 17, 1949 in Kansas City, Kansas to Elvin Hamblin and Juanita (Dill) Hamblin. He was the second of three children.

David grew up in Olathe, Ks and graduated from Olathe High School in 1967. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1969 to 1970 including active duty in Vietnam.

David was a proud father of four children, Mary York, Chad Hamblin, Trisha Allison, and Natalie Morrison. He taught his children how to drive, how to play ball, and how to play Sorry and Trouble. He took them to concerts. He took them to feed the ducks in the middle of winter. He spent weekends on end with them at his parents' cabin on the lake. He gave butterfly kisses and vanquished the monsters in closets.

David loved to travel. He enjoyed frequent trips to Las Vegas, enjoying the shows, riding roller coasters, watching basketball and football, and playing video poker were always his favorite. He enjoyed trips with his children traveling from Alaska to Florida, South Dakota to Arizona and exploring the mountains in Colorado.

David was a lifelong sports fan. His favorite teams include the KU Jayhawks, Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals. He enjoyed playing slow pitch softball, bowling, and golf.

David worked at Century Cabinets for a number of years. He was a passionate and skilled woodworker. A few of his creations remain as treasured pieces by those lucky enough to receive them. David retired from the Lawrence Postal Service in 2011 after 19 years of service.

David enjoyed the simple things in life like sharing meals with his kids, spending time with his grandkids, listening to country music, taking frequent walks around Frisco Lake, eating fresh tomato and bacon (BLT) sandwiches, drinking his coffee black, going to the casino, playing poker at the VFW and spending time with friends.

David is survived by his loving children, Mary York; Chad (Trina) Hamblin, Trisha (Devin) Allison, Natalie (Karl) Morrison; siblings, Linda Hoffman and Marvin Hamblin; grandchildren, Randy Snook, Ryan Snook, Caleb Hamblin, Joshua Hamblin, Katherine Stevenson, AJ Allison, Dean Morrison, and Eric Morrison; great granddaughter Yvonne Snook, along with numerous extended family members and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elvin Hamblin and Juanita Hamblin.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, January 22, 2023, at Penwell Gabel's Olathe Chapel, with a reception following until 5:00pm.
