Susan Marie (Kempcke) Hilgenkamp 66 of Olathe, Kansas passed away October 29, 2022 peacefully in her home after being diagnosed with a fast spreading cancer. Visitation will be held at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S. Black Bob Rd., Olathe, KS 66062 on Friday, November 4, 2022 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Funeral service will also be held at the funeral home on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 11:00am.
Susan Marie (Kempcke) Hilgenkamp was born September 21, 1956 in Omaha, Nebraska to Arthur and Marilyn (Reeh) Kempcke. She was baptized and confirmed in Christ at First Lutheran Church in Blair, Nebraska. Sue attended Goll Country School and Blair High School, both in Blair. Sue graduated high school in 1974 and began nursing school at Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, Nebraska, and Metropolitan Community College, in Omaha, Nebraska. Sue worked as an LPN for several years at the Fremont Hospital before becoming a stay at home mom to her two daughters. She returned to the workforce after her daughters began school working in the cafeteria of Arlington Public Schools in Arlington, Nebraska. In 2000, Sue began working at the Washington County Court House in Blair in the Clerks and Treasurers Offices until she retired in 2018. Sue also spent many summers throughout the years working in the office at the Washington County Fair.
Sue married Duane Hilgenkamp on November 6, 1976 at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Together they had two daughters, Angie and K.C. In the fall of 2018, Sue and Duane moved to Olathe, Kansas to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren. She spent the last four years helping care for her grandchildren and hosting family dinner once a week.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father.
Sue is survived by her husband of almost 46 years Duane, daughters Angie (Jimmy) March and K.C. (Crystal Wittlinger) Hilgenkamp, granddaughters Heidi, Zoe and Maggie March, grandson Riley March, nieces and nephews, and brother Jeff (Lyn) Kempcke.
