Michelle M. Johnson

December 19, 1964 — August 25, 2022

Michelle Marie Johnson passed away peacefully in her home on August 25, 2022, surrounded by loved ones and prayer. Michelle was a cherished wife, mother, and Mimi; a beloved daughter, sister, and aunt; as well as a loving friend to many, and a faithful disciple of Christ.

Michelle was born in Marshalltown, IA, where she shared many memories with her siblings and parents on family trips to South Dakota, Minnesota, and the Iowa State Fair. She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1983 where she was a cheerleader and created artwork for the high school newspaper.

Michelle attended Simpson College where she earned her degree in art and advertising. She was a cheerleader and a member of Tri Delta sorority. During her junior year of college, Michelle met her lifelong best friend and future spouse, Steve. After graduating from Simpson College, Michelle and Steve moved to Olathe, KS. Michelle found her lifelong career home at Hallmark beginning in February of 1994. Michelle worked in creative productions as an artist and supervisor and created many lasting friendships through her work.

Michelle appreciated the beauty of the changing seasons, and she treasured visits to her son Andrew's home in the Colorado mountains or to the Johnson family cabin in Minnesota. Michelle also traveled near and far to cheer on her sons, nieces, and nephews in sporting events, as she was always their ultimate supporter and number one fan. Michelle was adored by her grandsons, and she loved to spend weekends snuggling them and watching them grow.

So much of Michelle's life was spent answering the call to share the good news and love others as Christ loved. For over a decade, Michelle taught religious education and acted as the confirmation coordinator at Prince of Peace. She later participated in and led retreats and prayer teams at Prince of Peace and St. John Paul II. She inspired many with her steadfast faith during her initial and final battle with breast cancer. Michelle's identity and purpose was deeply rooted in her Catholic faith, and this was demonstrated through her care, generosity, and love for those around her.

Family was everything to Michelle. She is survived by her husband, Steve; children, Nick (Erin) and Andrew; grandchildren, Desmond and Jude; parents, Jim and Esther Nusbaum; siblings, Mark Nusbaum (Kris), Cindy Hoke, Mike Nusbaum (Amber); her father and mother-in-law, Merle and Susan Johnson; brother in-law, Jeff Johnson (Julie), sister-in-law, Sherri Jordan (James), and eleven nieces and nephews.

A rosary and visitation will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 16000 W 143rd St, Olathe, KS 66062, on September 2nd from 7-9pm.

Her funeral Mass will be at Prince of Peace on September 3rd at 10am. Luncheon reception will be hosted following the funeral Mass at St Michael the Archangel, 14251 Nall Ave, Overland Park, KS 66223, at 11:30.

In lieu of flowers, Michelle requested contributions be offered to the Capital Campaign of her home parish, St. John Paul II Catholic Church.Click Here to donate.
