In the early morning hours of April 4, 2022, Blaine Hougland heard the final whistle and received his last assignment for a job he couldn't refuse. His loving savior welcomed him home at the age of 59, with his wife by his side, under the roof of the house he built with his own two hands in Olathe, KS.
Blaine was born November 27, 1962 in Olathe, KS to Betty (Turner) and Gerald Lee Hougland. He graduated from Olathe High School in 1981, and went on to attend the University of Kansas studying Architectural Engineering.
Blaine is survived by his strong and faithful family, including the love of his life and "Sweet Cheeks" Connie Loveall Hougland, children Brittany Hougland, Caleb (Andrea) Hougland, Brennen (Jennifer) Hougland, and Carmen Hougland, his grandchildren Hudson and Sawyer Hougland, and Mason and Miles Hougland. He is also survived by his brothers Steve (Janet) Hougland, Mike (Nancy) Hougland, and sister Allison Hougland.
Having dedicated the last 25 years to the youth soccer community in both Kansas and Missouri, Blaine spent the majority of his days out on the pitch – from coaching his own sons and stewarding young referees, to reminding parents that their role on the fields are to spectate and encourage their kids, not take on the job he's been certified for – Blaine built a legacy that will continue to impact the game for generations to come.
Through his servant heart and genuine dedication to spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ, Blaine exemplified what it means to be His hands and feet. Just as the Father loves us, Blaine took on his role as a husband, father and Papa with stride and it's through his shining example that we love, because he loved us so well.
May his soul rest in the Lord's embrace.
